3. Lily Moscovitz (The Princess Diaries)

Every Disney hero/heroine needs a good sidekick. But that’s not the right term for Lily Moscovitz. To simply call her a sidekick would be insulting.

She’s Mia Thermopolis’s best friend, before and after Mia becomes a princess. Granted, Lily has her moment of jealousy, where she rags on Mia relentlessly, but thankfully they get through it.

Lily is the best best friend a girl could ask for. She shuts down the bullies when Mia reveals her new hair. She reminds Mia of all the good that could come with the crown. She’s even cool with Mia dating Michael.

To top it all off, Lily even stays in Genovia for an extended visit to help Mia figure out her marriage. Even when she is put in a frilly pink bridesmaid dress, Lily did it all with a smile (or at least a fake one).

But more than just being a supportive friend, she’s also very smart. As we learn in The Princess Diaries 2, Lily is attending Berkley.

In real life, Heather Matarazzo is just as awesome as her character. She proved that in one tweet.

And then she did us one better. Matarazzo even created her own podcast called “Shut Up and Listen,” taking the title from Lily’s cable show in The Princess Diaries. Yet another thing that makes Lily so great: she hosts a cable show, hoping to change the world, while still in high school.

If a third movie ever actually comes through, it better have Lily in it. Honestly, she deserves her own spinoff.
