Superbad – Always listen to your mother

Superbad is the crude teen comedy that helped thrust stars like Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, and Emma Stone into the spotlight. Inspired by Rogen and his best friend Evan Goldberg’s real-life friendship, the film is about two high school seniors who are about to graduate from high school and are seriously in need of some experience before they part ways.

When Seth (Hill) and Evan (Cera) manage to land an invite to a huge party, they hatch a plan to score enough alcohol to make them seem cool and to get two girls, Jules (Stone) and Becca (Martha MacIsaac) interested in them, so they can start college off full of experience.

Things go awry — because they always do — and hilarious misadventures follow as they try to plan the night of their lives.

Nobody probably thought so at the time, but the film ended up being a huge hit. Despite being a raunchy comedy, some of the stars needed a little help from mama in order to help the film become the instant classic it was destined to be.

Before being cast as Evan, Michael Cera’s mom read the Superbad script before he had a chance to. Not only did she like the script, but she was actually the person who convinced him to audition for the role!

Speaking of mothers, Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Fogell, or McLovin’) was only 17 while shooting the film. Since he was underage, his mother had to be on-set for some of the more risqué scenes. This included his sex scene, which his mother had to be there to witness. Sounds awkward — but that kind of works for the overall theme of the movie!
