Ferris and Jeanie Bueller – Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
We can all admit that Ferris’ sister was a real drag. She was a real fun-blocker and tirelessly worked to make her brother’s life as miserable as she possibly could. She was obviously positioned as Ferris’ direct antagonist but I think she might have gotten an unfair shake.
Hear me out. Just think about what it would mean to have Ferris Bueller as a brother. A total parental suck up and practical joker, he was a giant pain in the ass who essentially got away with everything. That was probably a real drag for Jeannie who was just trying to go to school, get good grades, and live her best life.
Jeannie may be the human equivalent of an eye roll, but Ferris seems like he has the capacity to work anybody’s last nerve. He basically gave Cameron a nervous breakdown, and that poor principal absolutely does not get paid enough to deal with his nonsense. It makes perfect sense that these siblings would be so adversarial — they both kind of suck.
Also, as a parent, that ending is a little unsatisfying. Ferris totally gets away with it, despite Jeannie’s meddling, and he winds up back in bed, under the covers, feigning sick like he did all along. There’s just no justice in the world, people.
