Gamora

When Guardians of the Galaxy came out, many of us were confused because it wasn’t a very popular comic series. The movie proved everyone wrong, but for the briefest of moments, we all were convinced Marvel had lost its collective mind.

Obviously, the company knew what it was doing, and in knowing so, it gave us Gamora. The daughter of Thanos, she reluctantly joins the Guardians, befriends Rocket and Groot, and has a “will they won’t they” relationship with Peter Quill.

What’s more important is that Gamora is nothing like a typical girl in these movies. Look at Black Widow for instance. She still has her “girly” qualities and uses her looks to her advantage. Gamora literally wouldn’t understand that concept.

She’s a fighter, first and foremost, and she makes sure what she is set out to protect is watched over. And when that object she’s meant to protect becomes her friends, it makes Gamora one of the more interesting characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Then again, Marvel does a wonderful job of giving us characters who are complicated and flawed. I just wish more of those characters were women. But Gamora is a great start to giving us more ladies to relate to.
