The Marvel Cinematic Universe movies ranked by hilarity
4. Guardians of the Galaxy
I can’t think of crazier opening credits than the ones in Guardians of the Galaxy, as we watch Peter Quill lip-sync his way across our screens, using some sort of rat creature as a microphone.
Everything about this first film is just so good. No one expected it to go so well, especially with “B-list” comic book characters. From the opening credits montage to the dance-off showdown finale, it feels like one hilarious thing after another.
Every conversation with Groot makes you laugh, especially when Rocket isn’t translating so you only get “I am Groot.” Gamora gets the best out-of-context pop culture reference with “We’re just like Kevin Bacon!” Rocket is incredibly charismatic for a CGI raccoon (and cynical, too); his schemes are ridiculous, like building a bomb and planning to keep it safe by putting it in a box.
All of Drax’s literal lines crack you up (“Nothing goes over my head. My reflexes are too fast, I would catch it.”). Everything works so well. 12 percent of a plan. Rocket yelling at Groot for drinking fountain water. Finger on throat means death. Every time Rocket needs some person’s fake body part.
And three ultimate words: Dancing Baby Groot.
