The Marvel Cinematic Universe movies ranked by hilarity
6. Spider-Man: Homecoming
You know, we all wondered if we really needed a third iteration of Spider-Man in the last decade. But Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker is the perfect mix of teenage energy, nerd, and fanboy.
He even gets a couple of good one-liners like the Spider-Man in the comic books of old. My favorite is the bank robbers with the Avengers masks: “Wait a minute, you guys aren’t the real Avengers! I can tell—Hulk gives it away.”
The whole opening showing him documenting the events of Civil War is such a fun thing, too. To see it through the eyes of someone who’s only seen the Avengers on TV helps you feel the awe and wonder at these characters we’ve grown accustomed to over the last decade.
It helps that he’s surrounded by kids who are exactly the same, most noticeably his best friend, the “guy in the chair,” Ned. The fact that he can barely keep a lid on Peter’s secret identity makes for so many hilarious moments. And he asks Peter a million different questions about his powers, which only makes everything funnier. (“Can you summon an army of spiders?”)
Plus, it might just have the funniest ending of any MCU film: Aunt May walking in to find Peter in the Spider-Man suit, only to be cut off in mid-expletive (“What the f—?!”)
