Who she is: Some may argue that Lara Croft should hold the spot for the most badass woman in a video game. While I love Tomb Raider, there is one character who has always stood out to me: Serana from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Serana is an ancient pure-blooded vampire and a companion in Skyrim‘s Dawnguard DLC. She is one of the two Daughters of Coldharbour, which means she became a vampire after performing a ritual with Molag Bal, a Daedric Prince of domination and enslavement. Serana has an extremely complicated family life, due to her father, Lord Harkon, wanting to kill her and her mother wanting to fulfill a prophecy that would block out the sun. Although her parents have made her life ridiculously complicated, leading her to be pretty angry, she still makes jokes and enjoys adventuring throughout Skyrim.

Why she’s on the list: Serana is ridiculously strong, and she shows that off in combat. She prefers using ice and lightning spells to kill her enemies, but she then uses her immense knowledge of necromancy to use their dead bodies to fight for her. Serana’s blood can taint elven arrows to create blood cursed arrows that can block out the sun. Even though she is a side character, Serana is a ludicrously powerful vampire who can kill anything in her path, and then she’ll make them fight for her in death.
