Women that are in video games usually fall into sexist stereotypes of gender roles. They have been damsels in distress who always need a handsome and strong man to save or protect them. In the past, it was normal for most female video game characters to be in the shadow of the male protagonist. But women have been standing up for themselves and showing society that we are just as capable as any man and we don’t need saving.

This feminist movement has been changing the way society and the entertainment industry portrays women in general. Now companies are creating badass women  — and giving them bigger roles in the games they star in. Whether it’s merely expanding their roles, giving them interesting backstories, or making them the star of the show, women in video games are now just as awesome as men.
