Hayley Atwell — “Bad Romance”
When your opponent commits to a performance as hard as Clark Gregg did, you have to have something equally as impressive lined up. Unsurprisingly, Hayley Atwell did. She countered his performance of “Toxic” with “Bad Romance.” It was a true collision of divas, both in song and in lip syncer, and it was one of the show’s most memorable battles to date.
Like Gregg, Atwell fully devoted herself to the style of Gaga. That means full leather bodysuit, vaguely terrifying, faceless back-up dancers and baring claws. Just glancing at the TV, Atwell could completely pass for Lady Gaga and had the crowd in the palm of her hands.
Less than ten seconds into the performance, co-host Chrissy Teigen let out an “Oh my god!” and that basically sums it up. Known for playing Agent Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans might expect Atwell to be reserved or quiet. If this performance didn’t shatter that illusion, then nothing will.
It should come as no surprise that both Atwell and Gregg slayed their performances; both have been known to post Dubsmash videos with the casts of their respective TV shows. Gregg has even gone so far to dress as Peggy Carter for one.
