What’s to come in Agents of SHIELD season 5 episode 14: The Devil Complex

This week’s Agents of SHIELD gives us the return of some well-known creations of the Framework, which our SHIELD friends must face head-on.

The Framework was not kind to our Agents of SHIELD compatriots. What makes it even worse is that they had no time in the real world to readjust and recuperate.

No, they were thrown 80 years into the future, only to find their way back and be at the top of the Most Wanted list.

Which means there are a lot of ghosts still haunting them.

The official synopsis for this week’s episode, courtesy of ABC:

"As Fitz and Simmons race to find a way to seal the Rift, they are faced with one of their greatest fears manifested."

Okay, so obviously it has to be Hydra Fitz because we saw him front and center in the preview for this week’s episode.

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. – “Together or Not at All” – Just as the team reunites, they become prey to an undefeated Kree warrior who is bent on killing them all, on “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” FRIDAY, JAN. 12 (9:00-10:00 p.m. EST), on The ABC Television Network. (ABC/Jennifer Clasen)

That being said, the obviousness doesn’t detract from it. Fitz sees the worst version of himself. Simmons sees a horrible version of Fitz who murders without a second thought and with no remorse.

The question is: How many other SHIELD members will encounter this version of Fitz? Will Deke see a terrifyingly evil version of his grandfather?

Because that would haunt Deke for sure. He sees these loving, ambitious people he descends from. And then he sees that Fitz? The one that doesn’t really exist?

Not cool, Agents of SHIELD.

We’ll see where this week’s episode takes us. So many things still need to resolve and have a conclusion. I know they’re writing it like this is the final season — and I won’t say it feels like LOST‘s final season — but it seems like too many things may still hang out there.

Next: Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD: How long can Deke keep his secret?

They will find a way to wrap everything up. As long as it’s not horribly lackluster, I think we’ll survive.
