Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: A new look for an old friend

While we’ve gotten used to some ornate costumes for our favorite secret Targaryen, that doesn’t mean that Game of Thrones season 8 can’t change it up a bit.

Warning: If you, like Jon Snow, want to know nothing about Game of Thrones season 8, then you may want to start arranging your trip to the Wall (or at least to our regular Game of Thrones coverage) as soon as possible.

As we here at Culturess wrote about during Game of Thrones season 7, what a character is wearing can actually say quite a bit about what they’re doing in a scene. Whether it’s Daenerys’ color palette in “Beyond the Wall” or how the show subtly reminded us of Gendry’s heritage, it’s never a bad idea to analyze what someone’s wearing.

Enter r/freefolk, which found a new image of Kit Harington in costume for Game of Thrones season 8. . . . thanks to Stephen Curry. Yes, that Stephen Curry, who just had a very significant birthday.

Check it out below:

We’ve gotten used to Jon Snow wearing some fairly fancy clothes as of late, so this is a significant change for him. It’s even, shockingly enough, not black. There are few characters left on the show who wear as much black as he does, honestly.

In fact, he rather looks like Arya here, as she has a tendency to wear quilted material and usually in brown, too. Is it possible that she recruits him for a little training session, his Longclaw versus her Needle? It’d likely be a nice interlude to a season that will likely be packed with major events. A scene like this would make for an excellent breather.

Of course, there’s also room for a conspiracy theory here — that he put this on specifically for filming this, and not for anything significant like filming sequences. However, it appears to be pretty well-fitted, if nondescript, and so it’s hard to say that he just threw something on from the costuming department.

What do you make of this? Is this costume a Game of Thrones season 8 spoiler, or a decoy spoiler meant to throw fans off the scent?
