The future of the MCU: What happens after Infinity War

The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is pretty much set. That includes a Black Panther 2 as well as some incredible X-Men content.

For the last 10 years, the MCU has ruled the comic book movie genre. While some of our favorite heroes may be coming to their end, it doesn’t mean that the MCU is getting ready to slow down.

In preparation for Avengers: Infinity War, producer Kevin Feige talked to Entertainment Weekly about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as well as confirmed a sequel to the (almost) billion dollar box office hit, Black Panther.

Since the MCU will now get the rights to X-Men, the future seems a lot more filled out. While they all fall under the umbrella of Marvel comics, many of our favorite heroes were owned by different studios, including Fox and Sony. That’s why it took so long for Spider-Man to become part of the Avengers. Disney had to wait until Sony was willing to sell the rights to Peter Parker to them.

Now that Disney is buying Fox, which had rights to the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, the Marvel universe is almost complete. Sony still has the rights to Spider-Man’s villains which is, possibly, why Vulture got his time in Spider-Man: Homecoming. With this purchase and the future of many of our favorite heroes in the balance, it seems as if Marvel has quite the plan to continue to expand the universe.

It feels strange to say goodbye to some of our favorites (namely Tony Stark and Steve Rogers). Thankfully some actors still have time left on their film contracts (looking at you Sebastian Stan).

With that, the MCU seems to have a long-lasting power that could last another ten years.
