Did moving Avengers: Infinity War have to do with Solo: A Star Wars Story?

With the news that Avengers: Infinity War has moved its release date up a week, fans are wondering why. But maybe Solo: A Star Wars Story has something to do with it.

While everyone is on edge for the new Avengers: Infinity War movie, we don’t have to wait nearly as long to see the next installment to the MCU. But the question now is: Why move up the date from May 4?

My idea? The people at Disney didn’t want the MCU taking over May the Fourth Be With You right before Solo: A Star Wars Story is released. Now I know that that is speculative, but think about it. May 4 is a huge weekend for Star Wars fans.

Typically, toys are released, and there are events all throughout the world celebrating the series. Also, looking at it from the standpoint of Marvel releases in May, it is a pretty wild time. Deadpool 2 had a change in its release date earlier this year, and it is now slated to come out May 18.

So having competing box offices between the two wasn’t going to be exactly ideal anyway, even with the fact that Fox and Disney technically haven’t merged yet. Additionally, May 25 is currently when Solo is slated to be released. That’s another short window that could easily produce some dueling box offices.

With the less than stellar responses to Solo’s trailer (Lando Calrissian aside), Disney probably wants to ride the wave of success that will most likely come from Avengers: Infinity War for as long as it can. With Black Panther still dominating the box office, Marvel is probably trying to rake in as much money as it possibly can before Solo comes out.

Next: Rey's vision notwithstanding, stop trying to make Reylo happen

You can catch Avengers: Infinity War in theaters this April 27 and Solo: A Star Wars Story a few weeks later on May 25. Don’t miss out or your infinity stone might be taken from you.
