Michelle Obama is Becoming an author again with new memoir
Michelle Obama is releasing her memoir this fall, titled Becoming. It will take readers from her childhood through her years as First Lady of the United States.
Becoming, Michelle Obama’s memoir, will be published simultaneously in 24 different languages and in audio on Nov. 13 by Penguin Random House. Obama will be narrating the memoir for the audiobook.
This will be her second book. Her first book, American Grown, was published in 2012.
Both she and former president Barack Obama will be going on an international tour to promote the book’s release, though dates have not yet been released.
The couple will be donating 1 million copies of Becoming to First Book, a nonprofit dedicated to providing equal access to quality education to underprivileged kids.
According to the Associated Press, the Obamas plan to donate a “significant portion” of their author proceeds to charity, including to the Obama Foundation.
“Becoming is an unusually intimate reckoning from a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same,” Markus Dohle, CEO of Penguin Random House said to People.
"Writing BECOMING has been a deeply personal experience. I talk about my roots and how a girl from the South Side found her voice. I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become whoever they aspire to be. I can’t wait to share my story. https://t.co/d7DxEG85NK— Michelle Obama (@MichelleObama) 25 February 2018"
We at Culturess hope that we will get to hear Michelle’s experiences on events that went on during her eight years at the White House, which she rarely spoke of publicly while in office.
Barack Obama is expected to publish his fourth memoir in 2019, which was picked up in the same $60 million book deal.
The rights to books written by Bill Clinton and George W. Bush sold for $15 million and $10 million, according to Financial Times, which means that this deal is record-breaking just like its participants.
“Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations—and whose story inspires us to do the same,” the book’s website says in a full synopsis.
