2018 Oscars presenters include Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie
The first 12 presenters for the 2018 Oscars were announced Friday, including Lady Bird’s Greta Gerwig and I, Tonya’s Margot Robbie.
Jimmy Kimmel will join the presenters as a returning host for the 90th Academy Awards that air on Sunday, March 4 at 8:00 p.m. ET on ABC.
Now, while the Oscars normally don’t recognize superhero or sci-fi films as much as we’d like, there’ll be reps for recent hits including Mahershala Ali (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Laura Dern (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Tom Holland (Avengers: Infinity War).
We’re also down with this slew of female powerhouses set to present at the Oscars: Emma Stone (Battle of the Sexes), Viola Davis (Widows), Jennifer Garner (Peppermint), Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip) and Daniela Vega (A Fantastic WomanI).
From the first 12 presenters announced today, only three are up for an actual Oscar. Greta Gerwig will present and has been nominated for Original Screenplay and Director for Lady Bird.
Margot Robbie will both present an award and potentially win one for her role in I, Tonya.
Kumail Nanjiani and his wife Emily V. Gordon are both nominated for Original Screenplay for their film The Big Sick, but only Kumail will present.
Important to note is a break from Oscars’ presenter tradition.
Normally, the Best Actor winner from the previous year would present the award for Best Actress, and vice versa for the Best Actress winner. Last year’s Best Actor winner Casey Affleck will break from tradition, a choice he made following sexual harassment accusations.
