Wednesday Wag: A rescue in the Philippines is setting up blind Valentine’s Day dates with shelter pups

Single on Valentine’s Day? No problem. A shelter in the Philippines is setting up romantic blind dates with rescue pups so you can meet your perfect match.
Don’t have a date for Valentine’s Day? Don’t worry about it. This year, singles don’t have to have a lonely Valentine’s Day thanks to an animal rescue in Manila. And, honestly, a furry Valentine is much better than a non-furry Valentine anyway.
A blind date seems like the last thing you’d want to do on Valentine’s Day. It sounds like a recipe for disaster. Or it could be the beginning of a cheesy rom-com. But if that blind date is a dog, you know I’m in.
According to Reuters, a shelter in the Philippines called Philippine Animal Welfare Society, or PAWS, is setting up romantic blind dates for Filipinos and rescue pups. And they get the whole Valentine’s Day treatment. The Manila rescue center sets up beautiful candlelit dinners to strike the mood and find these doggos their perfect matches.
For just $6 to help fund the shelter, potential adopters will be whining and dining with the best of them. Those looking to find their furry mate will get to meet some truly fetching dogs and give them treats and then sit at a “decorated table for two.” If that’s not a great date, I don’t know what is. The Valentine’s Day dates goes on until Feb. 16.
Nobody wants to be alone on Valentine’s Day. But now people who don’t have Valentine’s dates have been coming to the shelter to show their love and meet the pups.
The hope is, of course, to get some of the 70 dogs and 230 cats at the shelter adopted and to destigmatize shelter animals. And what better way to do that than with an adorable Valentine’s Date?

But be warned: These dogs are looking for a commitment. They’re not going on Pawndr, they’re looking for a furever home. So if you don’t want a long-term relationship, this isn’t the match for you.
