Jane and Michael — Jane the Virgin

I’ll confess, this one pains me a little. As a big fan of this show and these characters, I can see how this might come as hard news. But let me explain why Jane and Michael should have never been together in a way that won’t dishonor the dead or sabotage our belief in true love and destiny and all that.

Jane, as we all know, was a virgin when she and Michael were together. However your values fall in this department, you have to admit that they didn’t really know each other fully. Michael is the kind of man you date while you’re waiting for something better to come along. He’s not the kind of man you marry in your 20s. He’s a palate cleanser after a fiery breakup or a long, dry spell. He’s the human equivalent to vanilla sorbet. You don’t lock vanilla sorbet down as a 25-year-old woman.

If you really want to get down to the nitty gritty of fate, Michael was always going to be playing catch up to Raphael in this department. The universe put Raph’s baby in the virgin Jane. You can’t sleep on the “meant to be” of it all when it comes to these two. As sweet and loving a partner as Michael was to Jane, he was always just going to be a place holder until she found someone else.

It’s terribly unfortunate (or maybe it’s really lucky) that he died before they could realize their true path, but at now, Michael will always be the saint in Jane’s past. That’s a lot for Rapheal to live up to, but with those abs, anything is possible.
