James and Alyssa — The End of The F***ing World

I could probably unload a lot of words about teenage angst and adolescent ennui in a piece about these two. But that’s kind of the case for this couple staying to together. I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but these two are terrible for each other and should be as far apart as possible. They should probably seek professional medical assistance on opposite sides of the country, just to be safe.

Look, I know the whole premise of the show revolves around their quirky personalities and their eccentric relationship. Their weirdness is what pulls them closer and offers them an intimacy the rest of us connect to. I get it.

However, these poor young folks are just using each other. He’s using her as a vehicle for his very unsettling murder fantasies, and she’s using him asa  means to just feel anything. It’s really the saddest thing I’ve ever heard. It’s hard to discern if these two have any actual feelings for each other, or the endearment they feel is just a function of their respective mental illnesses.

Left unchecked, these two teenagers could do significant emotional damage to each other. They will inevitably be heartbroken and permanently wounded, likely to cause significant harm to any and all future partners. Get these two apart, immediately.
