Although it’s been easy to pay attention to other sites for Game of Thrones season 8 filming lately, that doesn’t mean production isn’t busy elsewhere.
Warning: It’s not huge spoilers like we’ve already had this week for Game of Thrones season 8, but it is something from production.
Earlier this week, we here at Culturess picked up a story that suggested that Game of Thrones season 8 would soon start work in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Now, however, Watchers on the Wall has found evidence originally published by Dulist and the Dubrovnik Times that soon actually means “very, very soon,” considering that there are actually images from both sources with what’s believed to be actual set dressing for the show itself.
It appears that someone will once again approach King’s Landing by sea, since it looks like docks are being readied. It’s not like the beach Davos Seaworth used for Tyrion Lannister’s secret visit, but rather official docks — and as WOTW notes, there’s “red drapery” about.
Our first theory is this: the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms (also known as Cersei Lannister) might deign to greet whoever’s arriving this time. We did theorize that she could be one of the characters appearing here. Could it suggest a Euron Greyjoy return on the Silence? Possibly. It could also be something for the Golden Company that hasn’t shown up just yet.
However, it doesn’t seem as though the docks are quite clean or ready enough — there are a lot of crates and fishing nets about, which almost suggest that a ship could be loading up to take someone somewhere else. That doesn’t disprove our Cersei theory, but it could be she’s fleeing the scene in advanced of a promised assault. We know King’s Landing will see some action in the final season as well, and someone else could have word and decide it’s not worth it to face the full wrath of whatever’s coming.

WOTW is more fixated on the structures going up near a fortress that typically provides part of the Red Keep in the show, but those seem to again focus more around the docks. We’re just not sure yet what they’re meant to be.
