When are the Oscars 2018?

As awards season kicks off with the Golden Globes on Sunday, Jan. 7, the road to the Oscars 2018 begins and this is when the award show airs in March.

The Oscars last year was really legit. From the dresses on the red carpet to the unforgettable announcement that Moonlight had won Best Picture, Oscars 2018 is shaping up to be just as memorable. Movies continue to get bolder and push the narrative forward, with Sunday’s Golden Globes already proving this awards season will be unlike any other.

The #TimesUp campaign will likely continue through awards season and come to a head on the biggest awards night of the year. Of course, the night of the 90th Academy Awards takes place on Sunday, March 4 at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Many of the big buzzworthy films that you’ve been hearing about like Call Me By Your Name, Logan and possibly even Wonder Woman have a big shot at earning an Oscar nomination. Dunkirk, The Shape of Water, Get Out and even newer films like Lady Bird will all probably compete for gold, but the actual nominations won’t be announced until Jan. 23.

Afterward, a luncheon for the nominees will be held on Feb. 5, followed by the Scientific and Technical Awards on Feb. 10. Final voting for the Academy opens on Feb. 20, and closes the following week. Obviously, this wraps everything just in time for the actual show. After all, they’ve been doing this for 90 years, so the system has pretty much worked out its kinks.

Or has it?

The lack of diversity or surprises in recent years has caused audiences to lose interest. And it’s especially frustrating to watch one movie sweep the entire ceremony. Though some awards shows are trying to change with the times, it’s slow. And the Oscars is an institution that adapts very, very slowly.
