Oscars 2017: Moonlight Wins Best Picture

Hollywood’s biggest night — the Oscars 2017 — are finally here, and we’ll be live-blogging to see which nominee wins Best Picture!

There are ten amazing films up for the award for Best Picture. Some, obviously, are more favored to win than others. We list the films are nominated below and put them in the order in which they are, in our opinion, most likely to win.

So here are the nominees, with the winner revealed at the bottom:

Fences: This year, we predict that this film is more likely to win than Moonlight, simply because it has a great deal of star power that Moonlight doesn’t have.

Moonlight: For the Oscars 2017, this is the film that’s the second-most likely to win the Best Picture Oscar. Last night, at the Independent Spirit Awards, this film was nominated for six awards and took home all six. While this isn’t necessarily a predictor for what will happen tonight, it does bode well for the most talked about film of the year.

Lion: A critical darling, but one that didn’t have a lot of buzz, until it was nominated for an award. A bit of a dark horse, but a welcome possibility.

Hidden Figures: Like Fences, this film has a lot of star power behind it. It would be nice if it took home the big award for the Oscars 2017. However, it’s quite a toss-up, at this point.

Arrival: Not really. Besides, the Oscars aren’t known to be kind to sci-fi type movies. And barring a miracle, the Oscars 2017 don’t promise to be any different.

Hell or High Water: This is a close-but-no-cigar movie. Highly doubtful that it will win anything tonight, though it’s nice to be nominated. It’s not a bad film, for what it’s worth.

La La Land: Safe choice. But boring.

Manchester by the Sea: Depressing. Boring. Casey Affleck.

Hacksaw Ridge: Two words: Mel Gibson.

Well THAT was one for the ages. Either Warren Beatty pulled a Steve Harvey or *someone* backstage freaked when they realized Hollywood had just pulled a “Crash 2: The Crashening” and decided to change that answer reallllllly fast. Either way, if that’s not a memorable Oscars for the ages, I don’t know what is.
