11 things the Harry Potter movies actually did right
“The Tale of the Three Brothers”
“The Tale of the Three Brothers” serves as the basis for the Deathly Hallows, making it a crucial part of the series. The film makers seem to have understood this, as they crafted the scene as closely to the book as possible.
Just like in the book, the trio discovers the story during a visit to the Lovegood household. Xenophilius pulls out The Tales of Beedle the Bard in an attempt to explain the Hallows — and to keep them in his home until the Death Eaters arrive.
The Tale of the Three Brothers tells the story of three men who have cheated Death. For doing so, Death grants them three gifts: the wand, the stone, and the cloak.
The first brother, who makes off with the Elder Wand, is killed for possessing such a powerful object. He doesn’t cheat death after all. The second brother uses the stone to resurrect his deceased love, but he soon realizes that you can’t bring human beings back from the dead. Upon realizing his beloved would never be the same, the second brother takes his own life.
The third brother, the only with the sense to distrust Death, evaded him for years. He did this by using the very object Death had given him: the invisibility cloak. When he reached a certain age, the youngest brother took off the cloak and “greeted Death like an old friend.”
