Ring in 2018 with these New Year’s Eve TV marathons
A number of television networks are hosting marathons over the course of New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, showcasing fan favorite films and series.
If you’re snuggling up indoors on New Year’s Eve, you’ll be in search of entertainment for the evening. Luckily, most networks are having marathons over the course of the holiday weekend. From award-winning television shows to cult classics, there are plenty of options to choose from.
Hit TV Shows
2018 marks the 10th anniversary of AMC’s Emmy-winning drama, Breaking Bad. The network is celebrating with a marathon beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday. According to the New York Post, every episode will air in chronological order, continuing on weekends throughout January. Whether you’re tuning in for the first time or revisiting the transformation of Walter White, this is sure to be a good time.
Drama fans will also be thrilled to hear that seasons 6 and 7 ofGame of Thrones will air the entire day on HBO2. If there’s a better way to bring in the new year than with dragons, I certainly don’t know it.
If you’re looking to enter 2018 on a lighter note, E! will play re-reruns of Parks and Recreation from 2 a.m. on Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday. This sitcom, centering on the parks department of Pawnee, will likely keep you laughing until 2019. Plus, there’s no inspiration like Leslie Knope when it comes to New Year’s resolutions.
Those wishing to start the year with a laugh can also catch repeats of Rick and Morty between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. on Adult Swim.
Classic Television
Syfy will greet 2018 with episodes of The Twilight Zone, beginning at 6 a.m. and continuing through Tuesday. Re-runs of this cult classic have become a New Year’s Eve tradition over the past decade or so.
Movie Marathons
Freeform will play the later Harry Potter films, from Goblet of Fire to Deathly Hallows Part 2, starting at 9 a.m. on Sunday. From the Triwizard Tournament to the final battle against Voldemort, fans can relive the highlights of Harry’s years at Hogwarts. And who knows, maybe this will be the year we all receive our Hogwarts letters.
Dinosaur fans can also catch the Jurassic Park movies on Spike. The three original installments will cycle between 10 a.m. and midnight, leaving watchers two opportunities to catch each film.
