Game of Thrones, DC Comics and others inspire the worst passwords

If you’re going to use your favorite piece of pop culture to help you remember your passwords, maybe go with something like JaqenHgHar for Game of Thrones.

We’re probably all guilty of having a default password for things, or having trouble remembering the long ones with all the letters and symbols that everyone recommends, or keeping a list somewhere or even something worse, like using a really simple password. In fact, as TheWrap points out, there is a yearly list of most terrible (and thus, the most simple) passwords out there, and we can’t help but notice that people are starting to pick some common pop culture symbols but don’t even bother to put actual symbols in.

The list puts “dragon” at number 18, and while “gameofthrones” isn’t actually on there, we have to suspect that Daenerys Targaryen’s title as Mother of Dragons, House sigil and general dragon-riding habits may have inspired at least some of the people who propelled it into the top 20.

Meanwhile, clocking in at number 28 is “harley,” and, again, yes, we know all about Harley-Davidson. But in a year where we actively started to question just how many Harley Quinn movies DC is planning to do with Margot Robbie in the role, it’s easy to imagine that yes, some had her in mind when they put together their password of choice.

As TheWrap notes, though, “starwars” is actually the 16th worst password of the year. Really? Look, we don’t expect everyone to know how to spell the home planet of the Wookiees (it’s Kashyyyk, and yes, that’s three ys in a row), but wow. It’s not the only Star Wars possibly-related term on the list, though: “solo” is in 60th place. A little early, considering Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out next year, but hey, maybe they’re still in mourning for Han.
