TIME magazine’s shortlist for People of the Year came out and we’re behind one candidate fully: Patty Jenkins!

Every year, TIME magazine picks their Person of the Year and this year, the shortlist has us pretty excited. Especially with Patty Jenkins making the cut. The Wonder Woman director has been making a splash all year and for good reason.

Her film is absolutely breathtaking and she’s showing the world that a superhero story doesn’t have to be based on vengeance and fighting. It can focus on beauty and love and bringing hope to the world. There was nothing more powerful than watching Diana Prince cross No Man’s Land and hearing the women cheer in the audience.

She gave us a hero who didn’t become one because of some magical event that happened to her or because someone wronged her and she wanted justice. She brought to life the hero who has always stood for truth and hope and looking for the best in humanity.

Wonder Woman truly changed the game. We have seen so many superhero stories where the woman is only a secondary character and now, to see Diana on screen and taking on gods? It is empowering, moving, and made us all feel like we could do anything.

And that was mainly thanks to Patty Jenkins and her vision. And not only has her movie changed the world, but she is as well. She continues to tell stories of important women (she’s currently working on One Day She’ll Darken, which is about Fauna Hodel) and she inspires us all to reach for our goals and to never stop.

Thank you, Patty. You’ve continually shown us that woman are strong, brave, and we can do whatever we put our minds to. And for that, you’re our Person of the Year no matter what.
