“Christmas in the Stars”

“Christmas in the Stars” is actually also the first track on the album, and it introduces pretty much everything you need to know about this album:

  • Anthony Daniels apparently cannot sing very well. But he can talk in rhythm, even when he has to work with a line like “20 different kinds of chocolate bars.”
  • R2-D2 still talks in the usual beeps and whistles. Also, Chewbacca’s there, but the producers of this album couldn’t get Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, or Harrison Ford to record voice cameos (although all of their characters get shout-outs later — but that’s for later).
  • Also, Santa Claus exists in the Star Wars universe. This is part of my canon now. Don’t @ me about it.
  • Frozen stars apparently exist … in theory. This is just one of the many things that are not quite accurate about the science referred to in passing in these songs.

On a more personal note, the opening bars of this song, before Threepio even says “Oh my stars! I’ve never been so busy before! It seems Christmas arrives sooner each year”? Those are enough to get me jazzed up and in the holiday spirit. Keep your classics. I’ll take “Christmas in the Stars.”

(Also, Threepio was definitely right about Christmas arriving earlier yearly.)
