Cyborg gives Flash a fist bump

Despite my initial reservations, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg quickly won me over. My enthusiasm for the character began during my childhood obsession with the Teen Titans TV show; when Justice League introduced Cyborg brooding in the dark about his newly robotic body, it immediately set off warning bells. Justice League emphasizes Cyborg’s struggle with his machine; even his voice is flat and mechanical.

But ultimately Fisher’s performance sold me on Cyborg’s struggle to cope with his trauma, and every time he interacted with his lighter-hearted teammates was an automatic win. The scene where Flash and Cyborg quite literally dig up Superman’s grave was so conceptually hilarious that I was already laughing when Barry offers a fist bump which Cyborg taciturnly rejects. Barry’s manic energy and Cyborg’s unimpressed glower are the perfect combination.

Can we have a spinoff in which Barry helps Cyborg get back in touch with his goofy Teen-Titans side while they both play Mario Kart?

Oh man. I just realized how terrifyingly good Cyborg would be at Mario Kart.

Like any superhero movie worth its salt, the final battle ends with a shot of the Justice League lined up dramatically against the sky, everyone doing their best “Twitter banner” pose. And then, in the corner, we see Cyborg finally give Flash that fist bump. The bromance is real.

Booyeah.
