While Heidi says fashion is for everyone, this season hasn’t really lived up to that phrase. Yes, the models weren’t all a size 0, but that’s where the real world ended. The judges’ favorite designer creates clothes that a real woman may not want or could even wear. How is that fashion for everyone?
Case in point, Brandon’s collection features flamingos. Every piece has pink flamingo fabric in it. While pink flamingos might be a great print for the beach house drapes or a beach towel, can anyone really imagine wearing those outfits down a Chicago street?
Granted, some people will counter that Margarita’s looks are really resort wear or Miami ready outfits. Still, those prints could be worn by many women. Actually, you could take a top from one outfit and a plain pair of pants and it would work. The same statement may not apply to the other designers.
Of course, Project Runway is reality competition show. There needs to be drama and good television. Also, New York Fashion Week clothes aren’t completely real world fashion either. The assumption is that these “fashion looks” can be adapted to the real woman. Maybe a flamingo print will make it to JC Penny.
