Court is now in session with Anika, the DuBois family and the Lyons on tonight’s episode of Empire. Who will win custody of Baby Bella?
We’ve finally arrived at the pivotal trial between Hakeem and Anika to determine who will gain sole custody of Baby Bella on Empire.
The poor kid just turned one and she’s learning that there’s no such thing as a drama-free birthday before she can even speak.
Let’s look at some videos…
Anika is trying, somewhat futilely to explain to the court that her snogging sessions with Hakeem weren’t as weird/gross as they sound. We think not, Boo Boo Kitty.
Lucious, seemingly back to normal, wants to testify on Hakeem’s behalf. We also hear one of Lucious Lyon’s own sons say out loud that he trusts him. I guess there really is a first time for everything.
Honestly, this episode could go one of two ways. We could get a gripping court drama where the two sides fight for one person they both love. Or we could get a legal drama version of Maury, which I could frankly do without.
Hakeem’s case for keeping Bella is becoming more and more compelling as the season goes on. We learned what a good liar Anika was back in season 2 when she killed Rhonda’s baby. Now everything Anika says in court seems phony and rehearsed, once again. Hakeem, at least from what we’ve seen, doesn’t have the life experience or the motivation to be anything other than truthful in his fight for Bella. Anika is cold and calculating, and while I don’t doubt that she may have some love for Bella, the power the baby gives her is what’s definitely most important to her.
I wonder though, what finally sets Hakeem off against Tiana. I’m sure she lost points with him for ratting him out to Cookie, but it also spoke volumes during “The Fool,” when Tiana adamantly claimed that she wasn’t trying to be Bella’s mother. As Hakeem battles for custody with Anika, his desire for a solid family may be pushing Tiana away. Tiana’s lack of desire to play wifey/mommy might prove to be the final nail in the Takeem coffin.
