Game of Thrones season 8 spoilers: Getting small

Even as Game of Thrones tries to keep mum about what’s going on with production, things continue to leak out, like a new role.

Warning: Game of Thrones season 8 speculation and light spoilers follow. Don’t want to know? Then we suggest you check out something more neutral, like our season 8 predictions

Let’s dive right into it. According to both Watchers on the Wall and Winter is Coming (the latter our sister site), Game of Thrones season 8 has room for a southern-accent-using “sad-eyed young girl,” to quote WotW’s wording and sourcing on it.

Now, both WotW and WiC offer very good suggestions, including the idea that the child is actually going to be a little bird. However, we don’t usually hear little birds speak, and the request for a specific accent makes us think that the casting department is looking for a young actress who sounds refined for a specific reason.

But while they both offer the idea that the child will interact with Cersei, we here at Culturess have a different idea. What if the child ends up as a manifestation of Cersei’s fragile psyche?

It’s possible that the trauma of Jaime leaving (which again, both sites bring up, though in the context of the character meeting Jaime) might send Cersei down a darker road then ever before. In fact, I’ve already predicted that Cersei’s going to lose her baby, if she’s actually pregnant. If the child’s a girl, it would help explain why Game of Thrones‘ casting wants someone specifically “sad-eyed.”

It’d be an odd turn for the show to take, that’s for sure, and a problem arises in the apparent fact that this is a one-scene role. However, it’s impossible to rule this theory out — because it could be the culmination of a slowly-unraveling Cersei throughout part of or the entire season, ending with this important scene.
