Last week, Supergirl put the season’s overarching narrative on hold. Instead, Kara infiltrated a cult and, at least temporarily, rekindled her devotion to the Kryptonian god Rao. This unexpected detour into spirituality made for a fascinating episode that ranks among the show’s best.
In the end, though, “The Faithful” did supply a pivotal plot point. Samantha’s frightening vision prophesied her eventual “reign”, though she has a ways to go before actually turning villainous.
How will it happen? Perhaps, tonight’s episode will give us a clue. Read on for the official plot synopsis of “Damage”:
"MORGAN EDGE SETS HIS SIGHTS ON LENA — When multiple children get sick from lead poisoning, Morgan Edge (guest star Adrian Pasdar) points the finger at Lena (Katie McGrath) and blames her creation of the lead bomb she made to save National City from the Daxamites. While Lena knows she never intended any harm, she fears there may have been a flaw in her design, leaving her responsible. Kara (Melissa Benoist) teams up with Samantha (Odette Annable) to clear Lena’s name, but it turns out to be harder than they thought. Meanwhile, Alex (Chyler Leigh) and Maggie (guest star Floriana Lima) make a crucial decision about the future of their relationship."
We haven’t seen Morgan Edge since Kara left him on a freighter in the season premiere. This time, he appears to have more up his sleeve than smugness. Lena is most compelling when she shows a trace of her family’s notorious ruthlessness; we’re excited to see her contend with her own legacy.
On the other hand, we’re nervous about Alex and Maggie’s storyline. In “The Faithful”, Alex realized that she definitely wants kids, putting her impending marriage in jeopardy. Her break-up with Maggie is a foregone conclusion, but that makes it no less painful.
