Finally, we’re being given a Lupita Nyong’o romcom
Finally, the day has come, the day we’ve all been waiting for: Lupita Nyong’o has been cast in a romcom.
If anyone was ever born to be in romcoms, it’s Lupita Nyong’o. She has proven repeatedly that she is one of the sweetest and bravest people on the planet. And her Oscars speech back in 2013 proved how capable she is of making us cry.
What other factors do you need for a rom-com heroine?
What’s more, she is as fierce as she is kind. She can wield a sword as a member of the Wakandan special forces in Black Panther just as much as she can be a nurturing influence in Queen of Katwe.
Which is lucky, since in this new rom-com, she’ll be playing a kindergarten teacher who gets caught up in a zombie attack. It doesn’t sound much like a romcom but if Shaun of the Dead has proven anything, it’s that zombies and romantic comedy definitely mix.
According to Variety, Little Monsters will also feature Beauty and the Beast‘s Josh Gad and Alien: Covenant‘s Alexander England. Gad will play a world-famous children’s TV personality against England’s aspiring musician as both war for Lupita’s affection on a school trip. Unfortunately for them, the lovefest is then interrupted by a zombie outbreak.
The movie will be helmed by Australian writer and director Abe Forsythe. Variety also reports that filming has already started in Sydney.
We all know how well Lupita can act (see aforementioned Oscar) but we’re super excited to see her comedy credentials shine through in this newest venture.

Plus, as fans of the currently very niche romzomcom genre, we can only welcome an addition to the canon. Not least one that will include Lupita Nyong’o falling in love.
