What are the best TV shows to watch this Halloween?
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, season 6 episode 7 — “Who Got Dee Pregnant?”
This episode isn’t just notable because it coined the immortal phrase “browning out” to cover those times (usually experienced at Halloween, let’s be honest) when you get not quite blackout drunk, but everything’s a little fuzzy around the edges.
It’s also a genuine whodunnit mystery in the manner of Agatha Christie.
Okay, not quite, but it still has all the right ingredients for a solid Halloween episode — costumes and creeps (namely Dennis, Mac and Charlie) aplenty.
The presence of the McPoyles alone is enough to freak anyone out. In this episode, Liam McPoyle screams “You will call her!!!” in such an iconic way that it will inevitably run through your head every time your friend goes on a date.
It’s not one for genuine thrill seekers, however, as the most terrifying concept the episode throws up is incest between Dennis and Dee, which is mostly scary because it’s all too believable.
But if you, like me, adore Halloween purely for fancy dress reasons, then “Who Got Dee Pregnant?” is the one for you.
Where Dee fails (who on earth goes to a Halloween party as an angel?), Charlie succeeds, going as the Phantom of the Opera. Even though he thinks the Phantom is a vampire who eats theatre people, which, let’s be honest, he should be.
Think on that, Andrew Lloyd Webber.
