Mr. Robot season 3 premiere preview

Mr. Robot is (finally!) back! But what does Season 3 hold in store for Elliot and fsociety? The official season premiere synopsis is pretty vague.

Mr. Robot is finally about to be back on our screens, and the show has a lot of work to do. There are plenty of dangling plot threads left over from last season, which run the gamut from gunshot injury to bomb prevention to dodging arrest at the hands of the FBI. And that’s not counting the fact that we still have lingering questions from season 1 to answer, most of which involve Tyrell Wellick’s involvement in the Five Nine hack, and what he was doing for basically all of the series’ second season.

Whew. It’s a lot.

And the official episode synopsis for the season premiere, entitled “eps3.0_power-saver-mode.h”, is as as unhelpfully brief and vague as ever:

"In the Season 3 premiere, Elliot gets woke and realizes that his mission needs help from Angela. In other events, Darlene freaks about them coming out clean."

Mr. Robot generally doesn’t reveal much in terms of its episode teasers. They’re often brief, vague and to the point. (Oh, and they often include phrases like “woke”. You get used to it after a while.)

The episode’s title also tends to play a role in the events onscreen, though the connection can often seem impossible to glean until afterward. Here, “power saver mode” likely refers to the process by which a device conserves power when its battery is almost dead. This can be anything from your computer, to your phone to…your body, if necessary. (It’s not quite the same, obviously, but the connection seems pretty clear.)

Could this title refer to Elliot shutting parts of himself down to survive getting shot? Or does it imply that Mr. Robot takes over, because Elliot has to go dormant in order to protect himself? And, of course, it also could refer to an actual computer, too, because this is that kind of show.

Since this is a season premiere, we have even less idea than usual about what to expect. At the end of season 2, things are kind of a mess for Elliott and the rest of the fsociety crew. Wellick shot him on Mr. Robot’s orders. Angela had an extremely creepy but also potentially productive meeting with Whiterose. And Darlene found herself in the clutches of the FBI. Where do any of these characters go in season 3? Your guess is as good as mine.
