New York Comic Con was as expected: Utter chaos, mixed with fun

Every time you go to a Comic Con, you have to be aware of what you’re getting yourself into. And this year, New York was pretty insane.

As always, going to a Comic Con is nerve-wracking. Not only is it filled with celebrities and fans alike, but it is also a place of chaos. And not the cool kind in the movies. Basically no one knows what is going on, and everyone just aimlessly walks around in hopes of finding something cool.

Honestly, you go to cons for the cosplay, the artwork and the celebrities. But what you get is standing around a lot and improving on your weaving in and out of crowds skill. This year, New York Comic Con was bigger than ever, which is a bit strange.

For the last few years, it wasn’t that big of a deal. A couple of celebrities would do signings and that was it. But now they’re branching out, trying to make it more like San Diego, and honestly, it doesn’t really work.

The thing about San Diego is that they have the space to do all kinds of things outside the actual venue. New York doesn’t. So they ended up having a Westworld event that only 400 people (maybe) got to do. There were thousands upon thousands in attendance.

Because New York has always been smaller, I think a lot of the distributors and show coordinators figured they could have smaller events for the attendees and it would work. Instead they were met with thousands of people who were a little angry that they couldn’t get their own cowboy hat (I’m still mad about it).

So what do I hope for next year? That they organize this a little better. Or at least realize they can’t have highly exclusive events that only about a tenth of the fans get to go to. That or don’t get every iconic actor at one time, so it is impossible to walk around without having Mark Hamill jumping out and everyone losing their mind.
