Poldark will let things get a little more romantic at home, even as our main character goes abroad in the second episode of season 3.

When Ross Poldark leaves Cornwall, things tend to happen that may end up negatively impacting his life. In fact, his going to America to fight basically kicked off the entire series, because he came home to find Elizabeth married off to his cousin, and … well, we’ve seen the rest of what’s happened over two full seasons and the start of this third one.

So here we are, partway into season 3, and it’s time for things to start … developing.

Again.

PBS’ pressroom has the details on what episode 2 has in store:

"Ross goes to revolutionary France to search for information about Dwight. George dispenses rough justice in his new role as magistrate. Drake falls in love with the governess Morwenna."

I think the season 3 premiere made it very obvious that Drake had fallen in love with Morwenna, but hey, it’s good to know that we’ll be seeing more of it this episode. It certainly didn’t take up quite a bit of last week’s two hours … oh, that’s right, it did. Hopefully things will move forward a little on that front.

Although the synopsis doesn’t seem to promise that Ross will be successful, there’s a photo of Dwight hanging out on the PBS press page, so we’ll probably see him even if Ross doesn’t.

Nice facial hair, Dwight. That’s certainly a way to make it clear that he’s a prisoner. The way things move, we expect he’ll be back in Caroline’s loving arms sooner rather than later.

Finally, will Ross actually come home to find out all of the terrible things George has been doing with the role he turned down? Will there be angst about it?

Presumably, the answer is yes to the latter for the rest of the season, but the former’s not clear just yet.

All indications are that we’re back to a single hour of Poldark this week.
