The fall return of Once Upon a Time is just around the corner, and a new story is about to unfold! Here’s what you need to know about the season 7 premiere.
Once Upon a Time lost six of its core series regulars by the end of the season 6 finale, and closed the first volume of what is (hopefully) a multivolume series. On Oct. 6, showrunners Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz will open a new storybook, featuring new tales of adventure, love, and magic. With a largely fresh cast and a handful of returning favorites, the show will jump forward in time to follow the story of now adult Henry Mills (Andrew J. West).
Below is the synopsis for the season seven premiere, entitled “Hyperion Heights,” via SpoilerTV:
"In the season premiere episode, Henry leaves Storybrooke in search of his own story. Years later in another realm, he encounters a troubled Cinderella, changing the trajectory of his quest forever. When Cinderella’s evil stepmother, Lady Tremaine, poses a threat, Henry discovers that following his heart will require him to make more difficult choices that he ever could have imagined. Years later, a young Lucy finds a disillusioned Henry at his home in Seattle, determined to make him remember his true self in order to defeat the curse afflicting the fairytale characters of “Hyperion Heights.”"
The fairy tale characters of Once Upon a Time will be relocating from Storybrooke, Maine to Hyperion Heights in Seattle, Washington, where Cinderella’s (Dania Ramirez) evil stepmother, Lady Tremaine (Gabrielle Anwar), stole their memories and gave them new identities. “…we consider this season a ‘requel’—half reboot, half sequel,” Kitsis says.
"By setting our story in an actual locale, we can tell more contemporary stories. Our characters will have problems at work and trouble paying the rent. They risk losing everything because of neighborhood gentrification."
“The audience will be left wondering who’s a fairy tale character and who’s a real person,” adds Horowitz.
