The terror continues on American Horror Story: Cult with our heroes in trouble, our villains in power, and the world in chaos.
At last tally, the body count for this season’s AHS, which is just two episodes in, was 3. And unfortunately for her (but very fortunately for the dynamic personal vs. political conundrum Ryan Murphy is exploring), Ally was the semi-accidental perpetrator of one of these crimes. Last week, we followed our terrified heroine as she constantly navigated her fear of clowns and was newly confronted with an even scarier notion: that she and her family were in danger.
It’s easy to forget with the overt political plot points and the imagery of our current climate swirling around, but this season is still Cult-centric. And with Kai set off on his quest for power, Winter doing some of his dirty work on the ground, and the Mayfair-Richards’ beekeeping, gun-toting new neighbors raising suspicion all around, it seems we’re getting closer than ever to the full realization of our theme.

Not that we’re complaining about what we’ve gotten so far. Though the future looks bright (and by “bright,” we mean “horrifying and deadly”) for the rest of season 7, the first two episodes have been just as entertaining as they have been unsettling. There’s no doubt that with the introduction of some new characters, a bit of a plot twist within the stark-liberal-lesbians trope, and whatever is going to happen between Ally and Winter, we’re already set up for nothing but explosive, disturbing success.
