2. The Power of Fashion

What is a conversation about Princess Diana without mentioning her incredible style? Fashion was how Diana communicated with people worldwide. She told stories with her clothing and we saw the evolution of her style develop as she became more comfortable in her role as the Princess of Wales.

Kensington Palace is now paying homage to the late princess’s influential style, 20 years later, with a collection of her finest dresses.  “Everyone who worked with her recalls that she knew what she liked and was very active in her own image-making,” the exhibition’s curator, Eleri Lynn, told The Guardian. Princess Diana’s clothing isn’t just beautiful, it makes a difference. The Princess of Wales spent much of her time heavily involved in multiple charities. She made a point to auction off some of her most iconic fashion choices, raising millions for a good cause. This did not go unnoticed by her daughter-in-law, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton. She honors the late princess by dressing herself in outfits inspired by Diana.

Even Kate’s famous blue sapphire engagement ring was originally Diana’s. When asked about the ring, William explained his choice to propose using his mother’s ring: “It’s my way of making sure my mother didn’t miss out on today and the excitement and the fact that we’re going to spend the rest of our lives together.” Kate has also worn matching earrings and the late princess’s favorite Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara for special events.
