Tens of millions of viewers tuned-in to Diana interviews because she spoke candidly about her life as a princess. Her 1995 interview with Martin Bashir was the tipping point for her marriage to Charles. She openly discussed Charles’ longtime affair with Camilla, telling the host there were three people in marriage so it was “a bit crowded.” After the interview, Queen Elizabeth sent a letter to Diana and Charles asking that they divorce. Diana kept her title and received a 26 million dollar settlement after the divorce was final. She renamed herself “The People’s Princess” and dedicated her time to making a difference worldwide.

Her daring efforts in philanthropy weren’t always highly appreciated, either. An England minister called her a “loose cannon,” during her landmine campaign, referring to her comments as “unhelpful and ill-advised.” She responded,  “I’m not a political figure, nor do I want to be one. But I come with my heart, and I want to bring awareness to people in distress, whether it’s in Angola or any part of the world. The fact is I’m a humanitarian figure. Always have been and always will be.”
