Game of Thrones season 7 episode 6: Who will die beyond the Wall?
With only two episodes remaining in Game of Thrones season 7, we’re asking ourselves again who will make it to the end? And this time around, we’re focusing solely on the group headed beyond the Wall.
In this special “North of the Wall” edition, we’ll go character by character of the seven who stepped beyond the Wall, speculating who dies and who makes it back to Eastwatch. This is all assuming, of course, that Benjen doesn’t make another cameo to just offer himself up as the proof and willingly go to King’s Landing — a happy ending and easy path would certainly be an unexpected twist at this point. Seeing as that’s not likely, here are our thoughts on who may or may not make it:
Tormund
The Mead King of Ruddy Hall may be Husband to Bears, but he’s putting a lot of skin in the game with this venture, including the ones he got at IKEA. Tormund has dedicated his life to getting himself and his people away from the White Walkers, but is now looking to take them on head first if it means saving everyone. We’re banking on Tormund surviving this quest, if only because he’s the face of the Wildlings and, with so little time left in the series, introducing a new leader seems unlikely. Plus, he’s got to get back to the giant woman…

Jorah
Directly going against this doctor’s recommendation of taking a few weeks off after major Greyscale surgery, Jorah is back in the North for the first time since he was banished by Ned Stark, the “father” of the man leading this ranging. Jorah has gone to the Doom and back for his queen, and we’re hoping that he gets a chance to once more. However, much like his father, Jeor, died during his last trip north of the Wall, Jorah might make a similar last stand.
Thoros
The Red Priest of Myr is the only healer-class in the group, having brought Beric Dondarrion back to life many times. However, while the other members of the party may be excited to have that kind of ability with them, it doesn’t bode very well for Thoros if and when he gets chopped in half. We have a feeling that Ser Topknot will finally meet his Red God after meeting the Great Other.
Gendry
After spending about four seasons rowing ashore (please don’t get us started on travel distances and times and teleportation), Gendry is once again in the thick of the action. We’ve seen that he knows how to wield his war hammer against a couple of Gold Cloaks, but we have no idea whether or not he can equally hold his own against an innumerable amount of wights and White Walkers. Given his and Jon’s budding bromance, we’re hoping that his smithing skills are good enough that he can forge himself some plot armor.

Beric
Good Lord of Light, that flaming sword fills us with life. The Red God has certainly filled Beric with life, having already died multiple times throughout the series (including, you know, The Hound). Beric acknowledges that he has a greater purpose that he doesn’t understand, and we’re guessing that his purpose has to do with helping Jon with this task. Additionally, no one just turns on a flaming sword if it’s not for a last stand. Rest well, old friend.
The Hound
The journey of Sandor Clegane is a rich one, filled with brutality, tenderness, loss, and redemption. Once fearful of fire, he has been shown the way through it. Still clearly the tank in a group of massive warriors, we’re praying to the Seven that his strength and superior fighting ability won’t have him trying to go one-on-one with a dead giant. The Hound has been a principle character since the first episode of the series, so we’re hoping his longevity will allow him a reunion with all the characters currently at Winterfell. Plus, he really is the only person strong enough to throw a wight over his shoulder and still haul away from the rest. Also, given the amount of fan service that’s happened so far this season, we’re hoping D&D give us #GETHYPE #CLEGANEBOWL as well.

Jon
If Jon Snow dies this episode (and isn’t brought back by Thoros) we’re done with this show. (Okay, fine, we’ll watch the finale, but c’mon.)
