Larry David can do the most mundane things and still be hilarious. Case in point: a Curb Your Enthusiasm teaser that riffs on Batman and … Larry David.
To be honest, my love affair with Curb Your Enthusiasm is still a little new. But I have watched all the previous seasons and think it might be one of my favorite shows. I mean, it’s probably because I think (this exaggerated, fictionalized version of) Larry David and I have a lot in common. Like him, I struggle in social situations and awkwardly say the wrong thing in an effort to “be affable.”
Unlike someone like The Big Bang Theory‘s Sheldon Cooper, David can, in fact, read social cues and has a wicked sense of humor. The problem begins when he ignores said social cues and drags something out just so he can prove a point. Though, he’s well-meaning enough to be the likable protagonist of an Emmy-winning show.
So I’m as hyped as everyone else for the new season—and no, I’m not being overly-enthusiastic. I’m the right level of whelmed, and if I chilled out any further, I’d be sitting on my bed reading a newspaper doing nothing.
Like this guy:
As Entertainment Weekly reminds us, the three easter eggs at the beginning nod back to Mr. Simmington, Palestinian chicken and how much Larry “reveres” wood. But it’s all set up against the backdrop of Gotham Los Angeles. To call upon the comedian once again, a Larry David picture is beamed into the sky. Of course, Larry sees it and just groans, like it would be too much work to make up a joke on the spot.
Once the Curb theme plays, Larry gets a call—probably from Jeff, right?—but the man remains adamant: “Turn the light off, I’m not going!”

We only really get like 40 seconds of content, but it’s all perfect. It’s Larry David being Curb Your Enthusiasm season 9’s neurotic, geriatric hero. And now, Oct. 1 can’t come fast enough.
