Groundhog Day the Musical is closing and we’re upset

The closing of a musical is never fun but we’re truly heartbroken over the announcement that the time has come for Groundhog Day the Musical.

Groundhog Day the Musical will finally change days. That is the musical that took Bill Murray’s heart and ran with it will close its doors on September 17. Now as someone who has seen the musical, this is extremely depressing.

In a time when our world gets crazier and crazier by the day, it was nice to have a show like this. It taught us that we can change and be better people. Groundhog Day shows us that our time is precious and we have to make the most of it.

But like all good things, they must come to an end. Granted, I did jump online and buy a closing day ticket within minutes of the announcement but still. It hurts to know that this musical that truly gave audiences joy in their lives is coming to an end.

If you can see it, I highly suggest you do so. I was crying in act one and didn’t stop until the end of the show. I’ve listened to it non-stop for the last few weeks because it is truly inspiring. With everything going on in the world, it reminds us that we have to take the time we’re given and do the best with it while we can.

And honestly, it made Bill Murray cry. So why not go see it? And if you don’t have the chance, listen to the cast recording. It’s incredible and inspiring.

The show itself closes on September 17 but will always remain in our hearts. Yes, that’s cheesy but so is this beautiful show. If you can, go see Groundhog Day the Musical and experience the same day over and over and over again.
