Bill Murray saw Groundhog Day, twice, and we’re emotional

The man who originated Phil Connors went to see the musical twice this week and who knew we’d be crying over pictures of Billy Murray and Andy Karl?

Bill Murray made some amazing films throughout the years. But one that truly sticks out as a classic that we still enjoy time after time (after time) is Groundhog Day. The movie, which is often showed on that fateful day, features Phil Connors. He’s a weatherman who hates his life and is miserable.

Because of his anger and misery, he ends up having to relive the same day over and over again until he finally finds happiness and love. A great story right? Well, it makes for an even better musical. That’s right, Groundhog Day the Musical is exceptionally charming and something I thoroughly enjoyed seeing.

You know who hadn’t seen it yet? Bill Murray, but don’t worry, he fixed that mistake. Twice. On Tuesday, Bill went to the show and as predicted, it was pretty emotional. But not just for Bill Murray. The cast was also super excited to have the original Phil in their midst. So excited, in fact, that they must have convinced him to come back, because according to the New York Daily News, Murray attended the show *again* on Wednesday night. (Sounds like someone is trying to relive a great day.)

Now here’s the thing about Groundhog Day: it shows us that we can continue to try and try and become better people. The more we try to change, the better we can become. It’s a powerful message and a powerful movie. So of course Bill was moved to tears by the end of it! Who wouldn’t be?

But more than that, it’s just exciting watching this story live on. This movie was made in 1993 yet we still love it and Bill’s work! Which says more about the staying power of this story and his charisma than anything else.

Next: Groundhog Day is the musical we all dreamt it would be again and again

If you have the chance to see Groundhog Day the Musical, please do. It is fun and quite the show. I was crying by the end of act one and I loved every minute of it!
