Taylor Swift makes a statement with her lawsuit: Throwdown Thursday
Taylor Swift’s legal battle over an alleged groping incident has been making headlines all week and Swift’s countersuit makes an important statement.
It’s been a tough week for Taylor Swift. The singer has been spending her days in a Denver courtroom as a jury hears testimony in the headline-grabbing case against former radio host David Mueller, who Swift says groped her during a meet and greet event in 2013. The two, and Mueller’s then girlfriend, had posed for a photo (which TMZ later obtained) and Swift says Mueller reached under her skirt and grabbed her butt. Swift didn’t report it to the police at the time, but did have her team let the radio station Mueller worked for know what had happened. Mueller was fired soon after.
Swift herself will likely take the stand sometime this week. On Wednesday, her mom Andrea testified, and, several outlets reported, got emotional talking about what happened back in 2013.
The whole case started when Mueller actually sued Swift two years after the meet-and-greet, claiming Swift’s team had cost him his job and reputation. He says he never touched her inappropriately and in court this week, even said he may have touched her ribs. According to CNN, Mueller is seeking $3 million in damages. Swift wasn’t having that, and countersued.

Swift, though, is only countersuing for $1. Her suit says the case will “serve as an example to other women who may resist publicly reliving similar outrageous and humiliating acts.” She’s not out for money. It’s a symbolic move by Swift in a bad situation.
