Jaime’s uncertain fate

As if the battle wasn’t upsetting enough, now we’re not sure whether Jaime Lannister — the incest-committing attempted child murderer-turned fan favorite — even survived? It’s too much to handle.

The final moments face-off between Dany and Jaime was heart-stopping from the start. First, we were devastated to see Drogon injured (though he at least fared better than that poor horse who got his leg literally cut out from under him). Yes, he’s a terrifying fire-breathing dragon, but he’s also a pet of sorts and watching an animal injured on screen is always uniquely upsetting (for this author, anyway). Then there was the moment of realization and hesitation on Jaime’s face as he put together that Daenerys Targaryen was there, in the flesh, weakened by her dragon’s injury, standing in front of him. In an episode marked by massive egos (Was it really necessary for Dany to go into battle herself? Was it really wise for Jaime to charge straight into the fire-breathing face of a dragon? No. No, it wasn’t. But these two have pretty high opinions of themselves and their respective abilities to survive anything), Jaime threw caution to the wind, swiped a spear, and ran toward what could be his end. The fact that Tyrion was there watching in horror as his brother threw himself toward what seemed to be certain death only made things that much more nail-biting.

So is Jaime dead? Was that Bronn that knocked him off his horse and saved (or maybe drown) him? Was it Dickon? Will they die too? We have so many questions.

Jaime was nowhere to be seen in next week’s episode trailer, but we’ll hold out hope for now.
