The Great British Baking Show season 4 finale live stream: Watch online
The Great British Baking Show will unveil its winner in Friday night’s double episode, showing both the semi-finals and the last set of challenges.
This season of The Great British Baking Show and the summer with it, have flown by. Even though there are two episodes left, most PBS stations — as always, go to the PBS website and double-check what your PBS channel has scheduled before making your plans — will air both of them tonight, which means more baking!
(But then there will be no more baking, which is sad, but we’ll carry on somehow.)
Here’s PBS’ official synopsis for the first episode of tonight’s double episode:
"“Join the four remaining bakers in the semi-final as they bash and fold pastry to achieve perfect lamination; make yeast cake with a fruity top and delicate chocolate work; and prepare a multiple mini-cake bake. Which three will make it to the final?”"
The technical challenge sounds like something either Mary or Paul could assign, because there’s both chocolate and yeast involved. As Mary likes to say, she enjoys giving the bakers challenges which require multiple techniques. In the signature challenge, the press photos reveal exactly what we’ll be seeing: palmiers. Mini cakes not long after the miniature mousse cake challenge seems a little uninspired, but who are we to judge?
For the finals, the synopsis is a lot more vague for two of the three challenges:
"“Find out who will be crowned the winner after they wrestle with meringues, undertake a British classic with only one recipe instruction and no measurements, and tackle one of the most complex challenges ever seen on the series.”"
The technical challenge sounds more complex than the showstopper, just because the technical has “one recipe instruction,” which we suspect will just be “make the thing” that Mary and Paul want them to make. Expect at least one baker to throw up their hands and comment on that. There are lots of ways the showstopper can go. Meanwhile, the signature brings in meringues yet again, which is fair, since they’re not easy. (They’ve appeared in both the “Botanical” and “Desserts” episodes this season.)
If you don’t mind spoilers, you can actually see who makes it to the final on that page with the synopsis. If you’ve been paying attention, though, you can probably guess who’s going to make it anyway.
But if you want to avoid knowing ahead of tonight’s finale, then you’ll want to avoid the link above the second synopsis.
Below, here are the general contours of when you’ll likely see The Great British Baking Show‘s finale this season.
