Star Wars: Han Solo is so secretive that Emilia Clarke apparently needed permission to show Chewbacca

Talk about keeping things under wraps. It appears that Emilia Clarke actually needed permission to take a short video of Chewbacca on the Han Solo set.

Star Wars‘ next spinoff movie, after the rather large (to the tune of $1 billion) success of Rogue One is still the Han Solo movie. Yes, even after Ron Howard took the reins earlier this year. Perhaps because of that change, we know precious little about the movie, even though it’s really not that far away from its scheduled May 25, 2018 release date. That’s less than a year!

As we learned when Howard took over, though, the movie needed a lot of work, which meant more filming, which kicked off earlier this month as marked by his sharing some costume photos. But he’s not the only person attached to the film who’s apparently gotten the green light to show some things off.

Thanks to CBR for this find. Here’s Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke’s very short peek at Chewbacca:

So yes, it does appear that she actually needed the go-ahead from Lucasfilm. Note that the video’s caption says that “@starwars said yes, this furry ball of joy could help me thank you personally…” And, of course, a look at Chewbacca really isn’t that much of a surprise. Chewie really doesn’t change all that much, being that he’s a large Wookiee. This does confirm that Joonas Suotamo is also in the suit, as CBR notes.

What she likely didn’t get permission for was to show herself, especially if she was in costume at the time. Granted, Clarke’s not all that tall, so she probably wouldn’t have fit in the frame with Suotamo. But still, it’s not like she couldn’t have gotten someone else to take the shot. Judging by her mentioning that she was, indeed, filming, she might very well have had at least some part of her costume on … and since we still don’t know exactly what role she’s playing, it’s highly unlikely Lucasfilm would have allowed her to step into the frame.

Ultimately, this doesn’t do much more than offer a tease, and not even a very good one at that.
