2. Theon follows to King’s Landing and tries to help his sister
As “Stormborn” continued, I found myself peeking every now and then at Twitter, and my eyes happened to land on this tweet from Winter is Coming, our sister site:
It’s referring to the scene where Theon talks about his role to Ellaria, right before everything got worse. Having seen this tweet, Theon’s decision to jump ship, literally, was even more of a surprise. Good on you, Bryan Cogman. You win that round.
Theon’s made poor choices throughout the entirety of this show, basically, but he’s also had his heroic moments as well. He might just decide that trying to help Yara is worth it again and follow Euron to King’s Landing.
Whether or not he publicly offers himself to die in Yara’s place is something else entirely. It’s possible, but we think it’s not certain. However, it would also make for a good payoff on that “protector” exchange, wouldn’t it?
Of course, Euron and Cersei could just say “no” and plan to kill them both. That’s part of the reason a grand public gesture might not be what Theon goes for.
Technically speaking, the Greyjoy kids have committed treason by supporting someone other than Cersei, who has been crowned queen, after all.
