4. Melisandre will help Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen find common ground

Technically speaking, Jon and Daenerys actually share a couple things: being rulers and also being Targaryens. They know about the former. They don’t know about the latter. Additionally, the two of them are coming into this meeting with very different expectations. Daenerys explicitly said the words “bend the knee” when telling Tyrion to write his letter. Meanwhile, Jon emphasized “allies” in his speech to his northern lords.

They also know Melisandre. She’s the person that told Dany about bringing Jon to Dragonstone in the first place. From the Comic-Con trailer, it looks like she’ll stay at Dany’s castle into episode 3, thanks to the shot of her with Varys.

What might happen is that Dany eventually sees the wisdom of at least leaving Jon for last when it comes to conquering the Seven Kingdoms, thanks to the impending arrival of the Night King. After all, he has the kind of expertise she will need. With Melisandre reasonably pointing that out, it might not take so long for Dany to decide she can work with Jon at least in the short term.

Additionally, she can back up Jon’s story of having come back from the dead. It might not really pertain to the Night King, but it is pretty cool — and proves Dany isn’t the only person who has some magical feats to their name.
